August Greetings From
The HorseTV Channel!
The Road to Aachen....Now that we've taken a closer look at the U.S. squad possibilities, it's time to check out the international scene and America's likely competition. We'll check the record books for the most winning nations in each discipline at WEG over the years and name a few international stars who may be the "ones to watch" in Aachen.
Reining
Although the U.S. showed a strong reining presence in 2002, they will see a decidedly more heated competition in Aachen. As of June 2006, 8 of the top 20 FEI world ranked reiners were German and 6 were Brazilian. Ones to watch: Duane Latimer (Canada) riding Hang Ten Surprise, Grischa Ludwig (Germany), Rogerio Barral (Brazil), Bernard Fonck (Belgium).
Best wishes,
Adryn Miller, editor

Horse Bits - Horse Industry Tip Of The Month From R.T. Goodrich Of The American Farrier's Association
To Shoe Or Not To Shoe?
As a consumer you are faced with important choices when it comes to hoof care for your horse. With the many barefoot trimming methods promoted over the past several years it is understandably difficult to determine what the correct answer is for you and your horse.
If you break it down it is really quite simple—there are four reasons to shoe your horse protection, traction, gait enhancement, and therapeutic. If your horse's hoof wears out faster than it grows he will get sore feet and need protection. If you ride an equine athlete he may need traction to better perform his job and prevent injury. Many disciplines of the show horse world need appliances for gait enhancement. Last but not least, many injuries and diseases of the hoof can be helped with proper therapeutic shoeing.
Whatever your choice—use an experienced qualified hoof care professional.
